IAJ Overview

The Institute for the Advancement of Journalism (IAJ) is an established media (journalism and communications) training institute based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The IAJ was established in 1992 by late veteran journalist and editor Allister Sparks to fill the media’s need for new and sharper skills in changing a South Africa. Over the past 25 years, it has trained journalists and communicators across the African continent, many of whom occupy leading positions in the media and communications industry today.

The IAJ facilitates courses at its premises in Richmond, Johannesburg and onsite at clients’ premises. We place special emphasis on interactive learning, giving participants scope to develop their skills through discussions, role-play and hands-on exercises.
