Figuring out new ways to protect the networked world

They slouched into the Nigel Magistrate’s Court early this month: 54 alleged members of a cybercrime syndicate, thought to have stolen at least R15m through various phishing scams in South Africa. They did not look like the nerdy types that might concoct viruses for fun over a cup of java: instead, the Hawks police investigative unit suggests they have links with international crime families.
